Organic Dairy Farming

Alberta Milk, along with the Going Organic Network and Alberta Agriculture and Food, co-hosted three organic seminars on February 13 -15, 2007.  Over 120 people attended the sessions, held in Red Deer, Leduc and Lethbridge.

Presentations were provided by Organic Meadow, an organic producer/processor co-op active in Quebec, Ontario, the Maritimes and Manitoba; QMI – an organic certifying body in Alberta; the Going Organic network, and Bruce Beattie and Joe Zink.

Feedback overall was very positive and Alberta Milk has received 21 requests for an Alberta Milk Organic Producer Membership. The cost of membership is $100 and includes membership in the Canadian Organic Growers Association and may include any additional workshops the Alberta producers feel they require. The membership fee was established on the recommendation of the sub-committee as a method of measuring producer interest and as a way of off-setting costs.
