Milk Quality

Alberta’s dairy producers are proud to say their milk supply is produced according to Canadian standards that are among the highest in the world for safety and quality.

Our dairy producers were the first in Canada to adopt a food safety program for their farms called Canadian Quality Milk. This program is built on a rigorous record-keeping system which keeps track of an individual dairy producer’s on-farm actions to prevent and minimize the risk of exposing milk to safety hazards by:

All milk produced on Alberta dairy farms is tested for antibiotic residues. Comprehensive testing and substantial producer financial penalties ensure that no residues are found in the milk Canadians drink or eat in the form of dairy products. As a result, there are no antibiotic residues in Canadian milk and dairy products.

Also, rBST, a growth hormone for dairy cows, is not approved for sale in Canada, even if it is used in the United States.

Alberta’s dairy producers are whole-heartedly committed to providing fresh, premium quality milk and dairy products for Canadian consumers.
